I just want to clarify that if you move to NB you exchange your UK driving licence for an NB (license!) one without taking a test? I've seen on WIKI that this is the case but I've just read an article with an online Emigration magazine which states that in NB you have to retake your test. Please tell me it's not so

if you have been driving for less than 2 years you do have to take a test but if you have been driving longer You will be ok to exchange. It will cost you $80 for the privilege though. (the only thing free in Canada is your Social Insurance No. because they use that to charge you tax instead) :frown: If you are like me and have my HGV class 1, you do have to take your test again regardless on how long you have had your license.

I live in NB check out my blog to see how I am getting on after 12 days of been here

One really good aspect of gaining a driver's license here is that it's a graduated license system for new first-time drivers (does not apply to license holders from UK and other countries because they go straight to Class 5).

Here is the NS Graduated Driving License System. There are restrictions that apply, and to be honest, it's something the UK should look into.

We had planned to do so this summer too, but had to change our mind... A few practical issue why it would be better next spring for us, at the time.
Although it is never out of the picture! for this year, a snapshot always possible, LOL.

Much interesting reading about that all though!

I don't know for you, but I am french, and I passed my driving licence in England... and it doesn't matter to me how easy or difficult it is, it is just the fact that it is a TEST, ...and that in itself can make ME fail! (psychological thing I guess about being assessed by a stranger, etc...while driving) ugh! lol...

Just bring your UK licence and take it to Service New Brunswick outlet and they will swap it for a shiny NB one. No need for tests (well there wasnt when I landed in 2005). However I can assure you that the driving test here is unbelievably easy. I think the UK's driving test is probably the most difficult in the world :o
