Driving Licence Exchange

Hi all, I have a question regarding the exchange of Driving licences.

I am aware that you can exchange your UK car licence straight swap for Canadian licence, however if I already have the motorcycle class on my UK licence will this to be added to my Canadian licence?

Cheers
Graeme

why exchange your licence? why not hang onto your uk licence? i've also got motorbike and i'm damned sure i'm not surrendering my uk licence.....two things, you might come back to the uk, even visiting and you don't need to surrender your licence. the canadians might ask you to, as you shouldn't have two licences but it's yours, so hang onto it....i'm also getting an international licence.....

There's no issue with surrendering your UK license - you're not giving up your status in the UK, it's just a piece of paper/plastic.... Also, in giving them your UK license, you're more likely to get your history transferred to Canada (good for insurance) once it gets back to the DVLA....

point taken but i've asked my three previous insurance companies (as i change yearly, dependent on price and what they offer) for proof of no claims, so that i can take those with me......

......famous driving wit from jasper carrott: i've been driving for 28years and never had an accident!...

....which is true, for me.......

It depends on which part of Canada too, provinces have differing laws regarding drivers licences etc.

How can you 'GET' a international licence? i thought the only way you could 'GET' one is to exchange your uk one? I'm sure i read that in alberta you had only so long to change your licence

Hi

We arrived in Calgary 3 weeks ago, OH exchanged his driving licence. Cost us $75 and they won't add his bike licence, so he will have to retake his bike test over here. I think you get 3 months to change your licence but I don't know anything about the International one.

Hope this helps.

This would depend on which province you are going to. BC do not do a straight swap not sure on other provinces though.

If you come to Alberta you can do a straight swap but your motorcycle class will unfortunately disappear.
