the lessons would be for my OH, she knows how to drive but are there any courses out there just to familiarize with the roads in calgary and then read the book and past the test?

If your OH has a british license then she just swaps her license to an Alberta one. No book reading or test.

Your OH can have a few lessions just to make sure she is doing everything correctly.

If she has not passed her test, then she will have to read the book, take the test, practise driving for one year, have a few lessions and then take the drivers test. My 16 year old has just done it and the whole package was $900 Ama were cheaper, at $700 but that is only if you are a member which costs.
