Yes, you (we!) do... I know, it's so unfair that certain nationalities can just get a BC licence automatically. The people at our local ICBC branch said it was all to do with which countries had reciprocal agreements with Canada, and nothing to do with perceived driving skills in the other countries :frown:

That explains why people drive the way they do then (in Calgary), with little ir no consideration for other road users

Rgds Scotty

they do seem to find gaps between you and the car in front which don't actually exist - drives me nuts (no pun intended);)

Can't you swap your GB one for a German one before you leave?

My son has just done his driving test and passed yesterday. said it was easy ;) took 25 minutes and he had to do, parrell parking, reverse parking, stoping and starting on a hill, turn left/right and that was it.

If I remember correctly, I was able to get a German driving licence while I lived there without surrendering my UK one. When I came to Canada (from Germany) I swapped the UK one for an Ontario license and I still have my German (ie EU) one.

Which is useful for driving in Britain, because I can claim to be a German tourist if stopped for speeding etc. The police usually just shrug and say "please be more careful, sir."
