Driver's license in BC
Thanks in advance,
At what point in the immigration process defined below can a person apply for a drivers license in British Colombia? I have researched the BC gov't websites and can't get a definitive answer. Family class immigration, from within Canada (BC) a couple just about to get married. She is from Malaysia he is from Canada. Both living in BC prior to marriage and will remain in BC. Can she apply for her license immediately after the marriage ceremony, or does she have to wait until her PR status? Regards, |
Noticed my typo
That should be British Columbia not Colombia

Re: Driver's license in BC
Assuming you are the sponsor and the application is pending then she will have to wait until she receives the "preliminary" approval -- apparently that is taking anywhere from 7 - 12 months -- they say 7 months when you call in but keep in mind that is from when the application is submitted into their system, NOT when they actually receive it -- that delay can be 2 months. The PR process actually takes 18 - 24 months, but the preliminary approval gets things going.
I am sure if I am wrong someone will correct me!
