He's down the road a bit.

To one of his points, i'm curious as to the better opportunities NS has to offer than the UK? Educational? Cultural? Activities?

Fingers crossed it all turns out well but i suspect realistic expectations are in order :)

I agree. I think there's a certain amount of honesty that's needed. There's nothing wrong in saying we're bored with our lives, we want a bit of an adventure and want to do it somewhere its cheap.

They should move to Hull. Cheap and very adventurous indeed. Oh, and it's next to the Sea with ample access to the wilderness (North Yorks moors, Spiders Nighclub, etc)

Is Hull the new Halifax?

It should be. The easy access to the North Sea Ferries and the architectural genius of the Humber Bridge should sway even the most stubborn would-be immigrant.

Plus who'd turn down the opportunity to become a naturalised Cod-Head.

I think we should market this concept. "If you're looking to live in a wind-swept, depressing, post-industrial city, where employment chances are limited and public services are rationed, move to Hull. Your parents know it's a good idea."

Could be Hamilton too. Do you think that places starting with H are somehow disadvantaged?

I like it a lot. The great thing about this is the ease of change required when marketing other areas, such as Middlesbrough or Nova Scotia for example.

It's interesting to note that Canadians named all their shit hole cities after nice places in the UK. Surrey, Windsor, London, Maidstone etc.

There some exceptions to that. Oshawa, Mississauga and Etobicoke spring immediately to mind.

Oh. And Vancouver.

Although I think they got it spot on with Chatham–Kent.

Everyone has to be realistic, agreed, however it all comes down to individual circumstances and motivation for the move and what is important. I have always said if you have a comfortable life financially in the UK and are happy regarding family/work balance etc then you would need to have other strong reasons for making the move, you could end up similar to what you have in the uk and then struggle to see the benefits of moving.

However the adventure aspect is also the reality for a lot of people and if you accept the rough with the smooth and go in with eyes wide open , after making an informed choice then great if this is what you want to do

Granted, most people still need to earn a living when they move here and therefore research is key to understanding what prospects you have by moving to NS.

In certain fields you can earn the equivalent here if not more, in others it is significantly less and this all needs to be taken account when reseaching.

Fair enough, if people want to swap one dump for another that's their pigeon, but it does seem like a lot of trouble and emotional pain to go through, where a long holiday might satiate the adventurous desire.
