The dream has ended !!

Hi Folks,

Its been a while since I was last on here but we have been trying to deal with the disappointment of our move to Canada coming to an abrupt end!

As some of you will know we went for the recce trip last Nov/Dec and all of hubbies interviews went great and he was offered all jobs there and then. When we returned he received 3 written job offers just after Xmas so, he signed on the dotted line for one haulage company in NS.
They then applied for the LMO - however Service Canada said the job needed to be re-advertised locally!! The company in question did so AND they had an over whelming response from Canadian truckers!:( Therefore the employer cannot meet the requirements for Service Canada - economic downturn has been blamed!!!

So on that note we have no option but to either call it a day or try again in 6 months or so?? Maybe the economy will have improved by then?

The other 2 haulage companies where in NB and after some soul searching we decided this is where we did NOT want to be! So it`s pointless approaching them again to see if the "downturn" has effected them - at a guess I would say it has?

It goes without saying we are totally gutted, especially my 2 girls. After all the hoops we have jumped through, not to mention all the money and time we have invested in all of this, to be told the chances are even slimmer than they where 20 months ago!

If it wasn`t for BAD LUCK we would have no luck at all.......:frown:

However, if things are still the same around Xmas - New Year, then I hope to purchase a holiday home in NS, then at least we would still have some connection with Canada - if only for a few months a year?

If anyone else is/was experiencing the same probs then please let me know your thoughts - at least I would know I am not alone in this?

On a final note I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to those of you that have responded to some of my other posts in the past, your views and comments where welcomed. I don`t think I will be on here very much from now on as it`s heartbreaking to read that many of you are on your way.

Once again thanks for your support.

Wth love

Hi Sue,

Sorry to hear your news. :(

Have you thought about trying to get to NB and then moving within Canada to where you want to be once you have PR? At least that way you are over there then.

Just a thought :)

Sorry to read this. Though I would point you in the direction of the Nova Scotia Nominee Program. If they nominate you, they will write you a Letter of Support which cancels out the need for a Labour Market Opinion.

I believe that it is currently taking 10 weeks to process NSNP applications. Might be worth a go. If the original employer is still really interested in having your Hubby, they can support your NSNP application - they just fill in a form, so that you apply under the NSNP Skilled Worker Route.

Have a read here:

http://www.novascotiaimmigration.com/en-page1040.aspx

and give them a call for a chat.

Hi Amy,

I thought you had to be in NS to apply for the PNP???? I can`t see how the employer can still offer the job to hubby when they have bombarded with Canadian truckers wanting the job. How would he justify employing a foreign national??

Help?

No you can apply outside of the Country/Province. You should call them and have a chat. We were nominated down the Skilled Worker route even though there are plenty of Canadian Drywallers around - my OH was the one that the company wanted. There is always the Community Identified Stream as well. Have a chat with them and they will point you in the right direction.

DO IT NOW! It will put your mind at rest over the weekend.

NB is a perfectly great place to set up home and bring up a family.

I wouldn't write if off and it is only 4 hours drive into NS if you have family or other reasons for being there.

Please don't give up OP.

I know it isn't quite the same but we set our hearts on Calgary at first, we fell in love with the place, found an area we would like to live etc etc.

Unfortunatly the job offer Neil received was for Edmonton, when we were on our recce last year I did try very hard not to like it because all I wanted was Calgary.

Now after nearly six months of Edmonton, I love the place. I like it better than Calgary. If I ever want to go down there it is just a three hour drive anyway.

Keep your options open. :)

Hi
Read your post and also wanted to say please try to find other ways in before you give up entirely, you never know! You only live once so if it's what you really want you should keep trying.
I applied just after the Feb 08 change in rules and my occupation became ineligible so I got KB'd, but after a lot of soul searching I realised I really, really want to go over so I've just started retraining as an accountant in the UK (would have done this upon arrival in Canada anyway), which is eligible (at the mo and hopefully will stay that way). It will take me a few years....but I'll get there!
Gotta keep the faith! :)
