Downside of Citizenship

Hubby is considering getting his Canadian citizenship. Is there any disadvantage too this? We know someone who lives in Canada but still collects the British state pension and Collects his city of Regina pension. However Hubby is only 39 so by the time he is eligible for the state pension the Baby boomers will have sucked that dry I reckon. However are their any other disadvantages we need to be aware of?

Not aware of any regarding joint British and Canadian citizenship.

Wont affect pensions etc.

Could be a problem in unlikely event of Canada and UK going to war I suppose, or in the even of the reintroduction of conscription or national service?

Canada and UK going to war? Presumably against each other? Doesn't NATO preclude that?

Anyway can't think of any disadvantage except for the surveillance state that the UK has become. So may be better to get Canadian citizenship (you need to swear the oath to the Queen and sing God Save the Queen - at least 22 years ago I did). My father collects his UK and TfL pensions and CPP.

We still have to swear allegiance to the Queen, but we sing Oh Canada these days. I can't think of any disadvantages either.

Wasn't comparing just stating a fact. :D

Picking the best of a bad bunch is not easy no matter if you live here or in the UK. ;)

I really hope people don't get the leaders they deserve, no way we are that bad.
