Default doing my nut in!!!!!

hi, my head hurts from looking into buying something to cut my grass with...i have just under 5 acres to cut..ive looked at the zero turn and u cant put attachments on them...a lawn tractor isnt man enough and will probably last around 2 years, then just be so worn out it will die on me...and so our next option is a small tractor which brand new from john deere is nearly $8k...so do we buy cheap and run it into the ground or ive been told u cant buy better than a cub cadet...but then its going to cost...i really dont know what to do..when i looked into this before i read best motor to buy is a kholer..briggs and stratton not so good...helpppppp i dont know what to do..any advice anyone

What's wrong with a lawn tractor? I've a John Deere X-Series and it copes perfectly well with more acreage than you've got. I mowed for 3.5hrs this morning, and accumulate around 70hrs per summer on it. My terrain's variable, from flat to steep enough to make ascent/descent a little challenging. It's coped perfectly well over the last 2 summers and has been 100% reliable.

^^ What Rich said.

I only have 3/4 of an acre to cut, but my John Deere is now about 20 years old and still going strong.

See: http://www.deere.com/en_US/homeowner...k=res_homepage for all the models available. Mine's a 42" deck with a 17hp V-twin.

There are a huge number of attachments. I've not bothered with any as I have a tractor for heavier duty work, or bigger mowing/haying tasks. If I needed to buy attachments for the mower, or plough snow with it I'd have chosen a bigger engined model, but for purely mowing landscaped areas it's all I need.

My experience of dealing with John Deere is to haggle until they weep.

That's a huge lawn, do you have to cut it all?

If you don't have to mow it all, just get someone to cut it once a year to stop it turning into scrubland (or whatever it's called).
