Clean state afaik but your bad karma means you will have nasty noisy partying grow.op running redneck neighbours, a truck that breaks down continually, and you will suffer from piles and halitosis.

Beware bad karma, it'll get ya.

Wont affect the visa per se, but you will have to have unencumbered landing fees and be able to show the required level of assets when landing...

If its just your credit rating you are worried about rather than leaving a debt, then dont worry, no one here gives much of a damn what your UK rating is, you will be treated as suspect as a newcommer regardless, until proven otherwise.

If you do have a large amount of debt you intend to leave behind, then credit recovery agencies might well follow you, or sign over the recovery to a firm over here. If its a small amount it might not happen, but you will certainly royally screw yourself over if it doesn't work out over here and you want to return to the UK later on.

If thats the case, then running from the debt is not the answer. Talk to your creditors and arrange a reduced payment plan or a consolidation or something now. Most creditors would rather deal with you now and sort out a deal where you pay them something at least, then have to go to the trouble of chasing you down for the full amount after you renege.

It depends HOW bad you credit is, most loan applications have the question:-

"have you ever been Bankrupt or made arrangements with your creditors".

Should you answer "No" when you should have answered "Yes" you are taking the chance, that should you again have problems, and default on that Loan, and the recovery department decides to do a in depth background check on you, THEN you risk prison as you are committing fraud, and they may well prosecute.

Other than that, you pretty much have a clean slate over here, but you can damage your credit way quicker here than in the UK as more Companies & organizations report back to Credit Companies here.

How is it fraudulent to answer no such a question if the OP just ups and leaves ?

Its fraudulent IF you answer that question as NO on a Canadian Credit Application, if you have been Bankrupt or made an arrangement with your creditors AT ANY TIME in your life.

Canadian lenders are not going to check if you've been bankrupt in any other country (normally) But if you default on a loan the credit recovery department may well decide to do an extensive background check on you (depends on the amount borrowed) in that case you may well have not only lied, but committed a crime in so doing.

In lying (by saying no when it should have been yes) a person commits fraud, ( Fraud is:- intentional perversion of the truth in order to induce another to part with something of value, or to surrender a legal right; an act of deceiving or misrepresenting)

It could also be obtaining money by false pretences.

SO generally, its not a good choice .

^^^ Listen carefully to the word of a professional, you annoying muppets.

Nothing worse than people who come on here asking things who only want the answers that they want to hear.

Anyway, only mangy scallies do a runner. Good decent people deal with it.

Right so, as I previously asked, how is it fraudulent to answer no to the original question when, it would appear, the OP is not a bankrupt and never made an agreement with creditors ?

Personally, I think they should bring back debtors' prison, or something equally obnoxious (forceing them to live in T'rono) so that people face severe consequences for their inability to budget, so as to avoid recklessly taking on debt they cannot service

And I've been working so hard on getting my credit rating from pretty poor, after a break-up, to tip-top for these past few years for when I need a mortgage in Canada!

Oh well, it's made me very disciplined with money and I have the feel good factor at last.
