DOES ANYONE LIVE IN THE NORTH OKANAGAN?
We have just got back from a 3 week recce trip and have totally fell in love with the north Okanagan vally, particulary Vernon and Salmon Arm. We have no desire to live in a big city and even found Kamloops and Kelowna just too big (although very handy to have close by).
So the search is on to find work in the North Okanagan region. I have worked in fashion retail sales and marketing for 13 years and my OH is a qualified auto mechanic (15years). If anyone has any info, contacts or top tips they would be much appreciated.

I was born in Vernon. And grew up there.
My dad was born there and grew up there and spent his entire life there as an auto mechanic.
I moved to go to University and never came back. Not because I didn't like it but because there is not a lot to do for someone in IT.
I'm not sure what the current job market is like there (I could ask my dad but he's retired now and wouldn't know any more) but there are a number of car dealerships as well as independent garages.
I could go on about how great it is to live there but it appears that you've already discovered that

Hello, I have lived in Kamloops for 20 years after moving to the North Okanagan from rainy Vancouver (a beautiful city), also lived for a year in Salmon Arm. If you are looking for employment, opportunities are certainly greater around both Kamloops or Vernon. (We lived on a lake 20 minutes commute from Salmon Arm, loved it there too.)
You don't have to live withinin either cities limits, there are many areas that are a short commute outside but keep in mind the rising fuel costs here at approximately $5.60 a Canadian gallon. Both Vernon and Kamloops have hot dry summers due to the desert like area and reasonable winters, some snow, but not large accumulations and usually quite dry snow.Very little rain throughout the year-this is a desert like climate we live in. If you like dry sunny weather, you'll love it here. Friendly communities, 200 lakes surround us, great outdoors for hiking, boating, fishing, some of the best skiing/snowmobiling anywhere in Canada at Sun Peaks and our surrounding areas. Feel free to email any questions, not on here much, you can reach me at [email protected]
I'll be happy to get you any info.

I live under 20 mins drive from downtown Kamloops, surrounded by open countryside and moderate to large acreages. You'd have no idea that the city was so close. Tom's summary of the area is spot on.
