Default Do you regret moving?

For those who have moved to Canada permanently, do you regret it at all or found that it was harder to settle then you expected?

Is Canada all you hoped it would be? If you had a choice would you go back to the UK?

I'm going over on a WHV for a year or two. And if i like it I shall probably try and stay. But the grass isnt always greener is it?

No.
I had no expectations. I wouldnt go back the the UK as things are now but never say never.

The grass is just a different shade of green (or brown if you are in Calgary!)

Best decision? No, that was having kids, but its turned out OK for me.

The title of the thread and the poll ask two different questions. I don't regret moving, but I don't believe it is the best decision I ever made

It'd be a bit disturbing if people who are married and/or have children thought that a change of address was their best decision ever.

I'll add my input

I don't regret the move, I like where I live, I have it pretty good by Canadian standards.

However should the right job appear on the horizon I would move back to the UK

After arriving back from Cancun on Sunday night and having to shovel snow off the driveway for the last 2 mornings I will refrain from answering this question without using a number of expletives

Most of us are still young enough to make decisions and potentially move elsewhere so its a question that really cant be answered.
I dont regret moving to Canada nor do I regret leaving the UK. Chances are unless I win the lottery I would not move back.
There are too many what ifs and unknowns that lay ahead.
A 2 year WHV should be looked as an oppurtunity and an adventure and at the end you have the choice to possibly stay or move back which is an option some of us dont have.

Is there anybody who, ultimately, doesn't have a choice? I suppose if you have renounced your British citizenship. I choose to stay here.

There's always a choice, but it's effort innit. Would I do this again? No. Can I be arsed to move back to the UK atm? No.

I will say that if the exchange rate ever drops to around 1.4 or below then moving back would become quite attractive.

I'm going over on a WHV for a year or two. And if i like it I shall probably try and stay. But the grass isnt always greener is it?

It's early days for me (8 months) but so far so good. Nearly through the first winter and it wasn't as bad as I expected. I can tolerate the cold especially when the sun is shining. The lack of rain was a pleasant change, although the snow and ice was a bit of a pain after a while. Getting work was tough but cracked that now and settled into a "normal" routine.
Apart from that I enjoy the friendliness and general cheeriness and optimism of nearly everyone I've met. Just my perception but there seems to be less aggression and anger in people here than in the UK, and far less chavvy-looking gangs hanging about - maybe they will appear when it gets warmer :-)
I suppose I had a slight headstart in that I already have Canadian family and friends and have visited here many times before moving so it wasn't a culture shock in any way.
I spent a week in the UK recently and was glad to get back here, so no real homesickness just missing a few family and friends in the UK and a decent curry
As for the vote, like others have said, I wouldn't categorize it a 'best ever decision' because there are more important things but I'm optimistic that one day I will look back and say it was one of my smarter moves, particularly if my children can build the lives I hope they will.
