You could always fly too! As Canada is so big it is a lot more common to fly from one part of the country to the other.

What attracts you to Nova Scotia Aspiring Canadian?
Reason id like to go to Nova Scotia is because of the scale. Its nice n small and less vast which therefore would mean itd be better for self catering

When you say self catering, do you mean camping, rv'ing, cottage rental or what?

A 2 hour drive for holidays??? It can take me that long, in Calgary, to drive home from work when it is snowing!

It should be a 30 to 40 min drive, but once they all start crashing into each other......

You are forgetting that the majority of us are Brits!

When I lived in the UK I used to travel 6+ hours down to Cornwall, or else 12+ hours down to the south of France regularly for holidays.

It's just what you get used to - if you move to Canada 2 hours will seem like nothing to you.

Aspiring Canadian - are you and your family considering a holiday lets business perhaps? If you are I'm sure it might be a great idea, but if you aren't, the day to day living problems of moving cross continent with a number of family members will, I am reasonably sure, keep you fully enough entertained fo a while to start wondering about your vacations. best of luck

Originally from Scotland, used to drive to Germany, France and Holland ( holidays and work), 2 hour was only as far a Newcastle.

In Canada, we have driven to Vancouver Island from Calgary, a 13 hour drive for our last vacation.

We'll be driving, with 3 small kids, from Almonte (west of Ottawa) to North Conway, New Hampshire for a long weekend in December.

6 hours in the car, likely 8 or 9 factoring in stops / bad weather.

Not daunted by it at all, it's a short hop really.

I used to drive 10h from the North of Germany to the South for a weekend with my parents and once I moved to the UK we drove from Manchester to Cornwall 6h for a long weekend. If 2h or 3h is the max you want to travel you'll restrict yourself from seeing the vast majority of Canada unless you'd fly everywhere which can get pricy. We drove Ottawa-Boston last year 10h with 3 kids (6months ,2 and 4years) No probs and well worth it.

As a 16 year old shouldn't you be wanting to party your brains out in Ibiza or Ayia Napa rather than a self-catering holiday in Nova Scotia with your parents?

We drove to North Conway from Nova Scotia. Think it took us about 8-9 hours. It's a beautiful part of the world
