Default Do we need Visa's if we want to stay for full 6 months ?

Hi,

I have been reading and reading and carn't find the answer to this so wondered if anyone on here has any advice please ......

I have read on another web site that you need a visa to stay in Canada for 6 months. However I have read on here that if you have a UK passport you don't need one.

If we wanted to go for 6 months with a view to finding jobs and a new life (including taking our dog) would we need to get a visa, or can you apply for a visa to ensure that you can stay for the full 6 months ?

Am I right in thinking that if we decided that it was for us and cold find jobs etc that we wold then have to apply for work permits ? and the PR ?

Thanks in advance for any help

Sally

As a UK citizen (assume you are?), you can enter Canada as a visitor for up to six months and don't require a visa to do so - note the 'up to' bit, as you may well be given less on entry so don't count on getting six months. Not sure how taking your dogs will work as you'll need to convince the immigration officer you are only visiting, and don't intend to stay permanently - taking dogs might not be ideal for that!

Obviously you can't work at all as a visitor, so yes, you would need to apply for a visa if you want to stay longer or to work at all. But you can do that from the UK once you've returned.

HTH.

Hi,

Yes we are UK citizens and we would return but having done alot of reading , We are thinking that to be there for 6 months would give us the oppotunity to really get a feel for the lifestyle etc.

We would be able to support ourselves for that time but wouldn't want to leave our dog.

Can you go for 6 months and then apply to work when you are there or do you have to do it from the UK ?

Sorry for all the questions and thank you for answering

You could apply for a work permit from Canada, but not sure you'd have enough time unless you found a job offer pretty much immediately. It will probably take you a while to get a job offer, then the LMO will take another couple of months usually (could be longer if refused first, as many are at the mo).

Chances are, your time as a visitor will be up before you've got the LMO, but if you do manage it, then you could apply from Canada.

People don't like it when you ask questions, let alone asking about different countries it means your undecided about your important future and thats just a no no

Oh I see Thank You For your Answer.

I had explained on another Thread about Florida.

Sorry if I have offended anyone that was not my intention, I won't ask questions any more and Thank You to the people that have been kind enough to answer the ones previously asked.

You should not apologize for asking questions. If you have posted questions about other destinations then that is not wrong. It's like buying a TV where you have three makes in mind but each has features you like but none have all the features, so you ask questions to help you make up your mind. This is a forum for helping potential newcomers to Canada so ASK AWAY TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT.

What rubbish. There would not be much point in this forum if people were not allowed to ask questions. There are good number of posters who visit here just to answer questions.

Who gave you the right to tell people what they can, and cannot, ask?

Thank you,

I have just contacted the Admin section to ask them to close my account !

I don't understand why people have to be so rude. I had previously explained on a thread that Florida would be our first choice but that we really are looking for a new adventure..

The thing about this site is that there are a number of people (probably a bit bored) who get cheap thrill when they are able to really annoy someone probably because they feel that they can get away with it (it's not like we can go round there house and confront them about it).

What keeps me coming to this site, is that there are also many people who are very helpful who usually don't behave like idiots (though everyone has the occasional bad day).

Without the help of these members, I do not think that I would be in Canada today.

If you are serious about your plans, don't let the idiots put you off coming here. They do not care if you never come to the site again.

By leaving you miss out on a lot of potentially good help and advice.

I can only echo the above reply.

Stick with it if you can.

Good luck with your adventures (just bear in mind that visas to enter Canada and the USA can be difficult to get).

Can you bring a dog into Canada for such a short period of time? I seem to remember quarantine in the UK means being parted for quite a time. Perhaps the same would be true for a dog entering Canada?

If you have all the appropriate dog papers there should be no reason. There are no quarantine regulations for domestic animals properly vaccinated etc.
