Do Canadians have a nickname?
We often see Australians termed as Aussies, but I don't recollect seeing a similar term of endearment for Canadians.
Is there one?

Re: Do Canadians have a nickname?
Its when my 'Canuck' daughter is on holiday in the UK or some other country, is asked 'which part of America or the 'States' are you from'? She gets this also from Americans'?
It boils her blood, she desn't like being called an 'American' or 'yank' which has happened on her earlier travel abroad.
She now proudly displays a 'Maple Leaf' pin on the outside of her clothing which seems to work for the reason Brits as well as in other countries recognise the 'Maple Leaf' as it being all that is 'Canadian'
I have yet to see or hear an American being asked 'which part of Canada are you from'

If she is in the US when asked by Americans where in the US she is from, would make sense to me, only certain regions of the US and Canada sound different, for the most part Canadians and Americans sound the same.
When I am in Canada, Canadians assume I am Canadian, I get asked where in Canada I am from all the time, but no Canadian unless they know I am from the US, has ever asked me where in the US I am from.

I've warned my partner, this is what will happen if he goes to the UK. He thinks wearing a touque and hockey jersey might help but I'm not so sure...

Hubby is a Canadian and uses the term Canuck. He is also now a US citizen and after 18 years south of the Canadian border still asked what part of the US he is from as they can't place his 'accent'.
As a 36 year RCAF member he was stationed in Germany for 16 of those years and often mistaken for an American. He wasn't to happy about that and always explained that he was Canadian.

When travelling abroad, I've had more than a few people tell me, in different countries, that if they're not sure whether someone is Canadian or American, that they'll always guess Canadian - because Americans generally aren't offended if they're called Canadian, but there's a large percentage of Canadians who will be offended if they're called American.

Were I live, the term Redneck would not be inappropriate!
Somebody told me once that the term Canuck meant Canadian from the UK. Who knows!

Re: Do Canadians have a nickname?
Cannies might be an appropriate nickname for Canadians?
It would follow Australians being called Aussies.
