do babys get jet-lag???

OK, so its a bit of a silly question but my wife and I were wondering......we've travelled to and from vancouver and england a fair bit and always suffered a bit of jet lag, particularly when flying to the UK, but this is the first time we'll be travelling with a baby (our 11 month old daughter). so... do babys suffer jet-lag....ie do they wake up/get tired at funny hours, get hungry at strange times etc? my wife and I will be struggling from the flight for a few days, but will our daughter just take one big nap and get over it all, or will she suffer days of strange sleep patterns? just wondering what to expect when we fly back in a couple of weeks....

Hi,
I'm sure more expert advise will come along....but why not phone the airlines?
I'm sure they have researched this.

Yes they do, but under six months it's not usually that bad. 11 months - yes, she will probably be affected. I get the late PM flight out to Vancouver and get the 8pm flight out from Vancouver to minimize the jet-lag for the kids. It has taken my babies about 36-48 hrs to adjust going to the UK, less coming back from the UK over the many years that I have been doing this. ;)

My daughter's 12 months old, and I'm sure she'd suffer from jetlag. When we fly out, it will be the evening flight just to make sure she sleeps through most of it (cross fingers).

It's hard enough trying to get her to go to sleep when she normally should!

Yes they do! Flew with my then 11 month old Toronto - London. Night flight to London. Cranky on take off then slept all the way. Once there took over a week to adjust. Could not sleep until 2am and could not wake up until after 11am. Flew back day flight - again slept all the way :) ... Funny adjustment didn't seem to be as bad coming home to Canada.

Yup and they are grumpy little bleeders with it.When ever I have done a long haul I just let them do what they see fit.If they want to sleep let them sleep.DON'T try to keep them awake to fall into the right sleep pattern.they will get there themselves :)

Why would you give paracetemol to a jet lagged baby?

BTW Suppos are the way to go for young children!

I heard it's easier going from East to West than going West to East because of the time difference.

Ok, I've not much real life experience in this area but isn't that what babies do anyway?
