On my first day here I made the mistake of going to Safeway... where: 1 Red Pepper, 1 Jar instant coffee and 1 bag oranges, cost $19! Safeway should be called SafeDistanceAway.

Safeway can be OK for some things when on sale, also Safeway produce is vastly superior to Superstore. Like shopping for anything, no one store is better for everything. We shop a lot at Costco, but not for everything.

I imagine that is the case re quality, but we are currently on one income and its a 0.8 at that (I like to say that I am currently working a .0!)

I think half my trouble was not understanding what the Safeway Club was!

Had a Costco experience this weekend... not sure the term "Friendly Manitoba" applies there!

Haha I do agree about safeway. We only go there when we see a deal in the flyers. Expensive.

Most of our shopping I do at Superstore, and we tend to buy lots of non perishables when they are on sale. We always buy gas from coop because of the yearly rebate. It's nice to get the cheque in the mail.

Safeway can be expensive but the quality is so much better, and the service is outstanding, just ensure you stick to club items and it is relatively the same price. I am happy to pay a little more each week on my groceries to avoid leaving a store ready to kill someone, which happens everytime i set foot in superstore. My wife has banned me from there now as it gets me so friggin stressed.

Anyway, I was looking into reducing our home phone, TV and internet which we are paying $120/month for on Shaw. I've just found the exact same package with MTS for $80/month as part of the 'newcomers to Manitoba' deal. Which you must prove you are a new immigrant (less than 1 year in Canada).

So my question is, are there lots of deals like this?? If there is, I would love to hear about them! (Or just in general, any saving money tips wouldn't go a miss!)

In Manitoba, join the co-op and buy your gas there. It is the same price as the other gas stations, full service is not charged at a premium (helps in winter when its -40), and you get a substantial rebate cheque every year, mine is usually around $300 rebate on gas for a 2 car family.

That's a great post, unfortunately too late for my OH who took out an MTS $45 wireless 24 month contract. I am a little bit peed off, our local MTS store should have told us about this deal, we used our landing papers to get by the credit check, so you would have thought they would have signed you up to the best deal for newcomers? Oh well I will get the TV package when we move into our new house in Dec. Will visit the MTS store and see if there is anything than can be done to change to the newcomers deal.

Regards

Andrew

It appears I wasn't too late for the Cell Phone deal they honoured it and refunded any amount that was paid outside the newcomers deal. My wife and I got the same deal, now for the TV and internet package.

Anyone know of any other deals in Manitoba, like home insurance etc?

Regards

Andrew
