Does anyone know the policy on spouse disabilities?

My husband is the principal person applying for immigration but I have a disability (that can be managed). Would this be a big hurdle to overcome?

Are you applying skilled worker class? You might have trouble passing the medical depending on what it is.

My husband is disabled (I was the principal applicant) and is recognized as such here in Canada. As Biiiink says it depends on what the disability is ... please feel free to PM me if you want to discuss anything further.

I have a profound hearing loss and fretted about this while we were applying. This was in spite of our consultant and someone from CHC telling me they can't refuse you because of a disability, "We have laws against that". What they can do is refuse you because of the illness that causes the disability. ie if it were Multiple Sclerosis and so likely to cost the healthcare system more than the average amount, or something like that. There is a figure somewhere in the system.

The medical itself was a nightmare as the ignorant bastards insisted on "testing" my hearing even though the medical information says you have a right to refuse any part of the exam provided you can supply a specialist opinion. So I would say get a medical report from whoever looks after you with a projection of the likely course of your disability. Have a search online for the amount and see if your meds etc are more than that. Otherwise you can only try it and see. Good luck
