Air Canada fly to Halifax from London Heathrow. However it stops in St Johns' (Newfoundland) where you will clear Canadian customs and immigration.

You could probably get a connection with British Midland out of Edinburgh or Glasgow.

The AC flight to Halifax (stopping in St John's) is a code-share with BMI so I am sure you can get a connection from Scotland right the way through with BMI.
