Surely there is some kind of hydraulic heater one can purchase & plug in ones tractor? You know, like some folk use on their cars....

A small snag being that one would first have to have the cable pulled so as to have power in the barn. I can't think why no one has yet got around to that.

Thanks for the input guys. It was just a thought. I have never personally owned a diesel.

I think I will be looking in the Ford Escape 'category' but will of course look at Kia / NIssan etc. (always been VERY pleased with the two Nissan cars that I have owned - albeit 200SX and 350Z - very different beasts!).

Looks like it will be a petrol one then......

Beware of the Ford Escape, if you tow a trailer they have a habit of flipping over. Uhaul wont hire trailers to Escape owners. The newer ones may be OK though. I owned a Mazda Tribute many moons ago which is the same as the ford and when i drove into a Uhaul in Winnipeg they said straight away they wouldnt hire me a trailer, I was hiring a van as it happened but what they told me about escapes was a surprise.

oops lol i put wrong model, doing four things at once at work, The Mazda i had was the same just a different badge. Only owned a ford once in UK and will never buy one again.
Being literally just off the boat i didnt know the Mazda was the same as the ford.

Beware of unsubstantiated and erroneous information stated as fact.

I have so far not managed to flip a 5x12 utility trailer carrying variously an ATV, lawn tractor, garbage for the tip, more crushed stone that it was designed to carry etc while being towed behind a 2013 Ford Escape over the past 3 years. Perhaps I should be trying harder?

It does say 2010 or older yours is a newer one.

I looked at the Nissan Rogue. It was nice enough in a bland sort of way but noisy. Kia's and Hyundai's are worth a look. Not had a Kia SUV but we did run a Kia Soul a few years back and liked it. As I say, we have an Escape and a RAV4 and there is precious little to choose between them but on balance I like the Escape better for handling, such that it is, and interior ergonomics. Cheaper too.

The lease on the Escape is up in August & it'll likely be replaced by another one.

We leased a succession of them and before that an Explorer on a four year term. iirc the Explorer was a 1998 so the first Escape would have been a 2002, then a 2005, then a 2008 (or something like that, sometimes leases are 2 or 4 years, not 3). Nothing flipped, exploded or fell off but I don't recall a lot of trailer towing. The experience was such that I had other Fords concurrently and our household has two now.

That said, since I've kept finding Fords that met the need at a sensible price, I haven't tried a lot of other brands, except VW. I regret the VW. For that cost of ownership I could have run an E type.

When in Canada, go with Japanese. Cuz the chances of them going wrong are far less than their other counterparts (even European).
