desperately in need of guidance

hi folks, i'm a newby so please forgive me for any silly questions i mite be asking, the last few years i've been toying with the thought of starting afresh in Canada but have been put off with all the negalities of getting a visa and finding a job and where best to live etc etc etc!!!! Well i've made a decision to go for it "what the hell" people do this all the time it cant be that hard lol... i'm a truck driver and have nearly 8 years experience, most of my driving career has been driving petrol tankers (delivering petrol to service stations) i hold an ADR cert and obtained other cert's while working in this enviroment, i just dont know where to start and get this ball rolling and would really like some guidance from someone thats been where i am and is now successfuly trucking it all over Canada ;-)... I was very close to paying loads of cash to an immigration company to do all the nasty work for me but after being advised to check these companies reviews its put me off so i'm stuck in limbo for the mo!!! I will be travelling over myself so not too bothered where i go to be honest i just want to get my head down and drive and make as much money as i can for first couple of years and then take a step back and only then decide where i want to settle, if anyone can point me in the rite direction i'd greatly appreciate it... many thanks Kenny.

Welcome to BE.

Do you take a look in the separate truckers forum here? Bound to be someone there that has done what you are contemplating.

The wiki articles are pretty good for explaining the basic immigration options open to you and the types of visa or permits you should be considering as well as job seeking strategies.

I think its wise to keep your options regarding location as open as possible. Its been a while since I worried about the intricacies of immigration options, but I suspect you will need a job offer to get the ball rolling. Do your homework regarding different employers, some treat immigrant workers tied to that one job pretty shabbily, so go in with your eyes open.

Good Luck.
