Dental/Braces
 

Dentist suggested that one of the children needs a brace. There is probably something in it as a few years ago a retainer wasn't put in when a baby tooth was taken out so the adjacent teeth haven't come through straight. Just wondered if expats had any advice on things to be aware of when making arrangements for braces. I think half the cost up to a limit will be covered through work insurance.

My kid is in ortho care. He seems good though. It is expensive (5K) for braces top and bottom. We are in headgear stage at 2K.

Company healthplans (2) are covering 50% up to 2k on one, and $500 on the other, so not great, but my daughter's teeth need sorting - they are not great.

Something the dentist did for me was to bundle two years worth of bills, for two children, into one invoice dated December 31st. That was highly tax efficient since the tax break is only on amounts exceeding some percentage of income.

We have the same problem. We went back to the Uk a couple weeks ago to our family dentist. He told us our daughter needed realignment and braces as her tooth next to her fromt tooth is growing behind it. Knew it was gonna be expensive - but 5 :eek:grand!! We don't have any insurance, but me thinks i's gonna need some quicksmart!!!!

I was begging the dentist for him to shove a brace in there and then, but he wasn't hearing it!!!!

My youngest who is 12 got her braces top and bottom about 6 months a go. They were expensive about 5 1/2 thousand and Alberta Blue X kindly paid 1/2. We used our dentist in Okotoks and they provided us with a payment plan that spread the remaining cost over 12 months. Sofar everything is going well, the cost of the braces also includes the monthly checkup's and all adjustments.

Two kids in ortho, (full top and bottom) neither of our health insurances cover treatment. This was one thing we tried to sort from the UK, as we knew at least two would need ortho. We were unable to find an Insurance provider, not sure if that has changed, but it should be a consideration for people with children.

The total cost is expected to be about $10k (sobs). We are hoping that the third does not need braces, he used to suck his thumb...
