Delayed arrival

We obtained our P.R. in April this year on a two week trip before returning to the UK, but are not able to return permanently just yet due to work and study commitments. Any one know what the resident requirements are? I am sure it has been answered before, but just can't find it. Think it was 2 years out of five, and if so, from when??? Many thanks.

It is a rolling 2 years in every 5 year period. In other words, if CIC looks at any 5 year period, you must be in Canada for at least 2 years during that period. It "begins" from the moment you land but, as indicated above, it is rolling.

For example, let's say you landed on January 1, 2004 and stayed until December 31, 2005, you then left Canada. You would have to return by January 1, 2009 to kept your status. You cannot say that you have done 2 out of 5 in the first 5 years, and therefore you can stay out for 3 years in the second 5 years.

Many thanks for the reply. Having waited almost 4 years for the PR to come through we definitely don't want to loose it, but circumstances certainly change during the waiting time. Again thanks.
