Re: Degree
Hi
Who knows? He may be lucky and find a company open minded enough to recognise his skills and experience but from my own experiences they will be far and few between. Canadian employers place a huge amount of importance on post secondary education. I have even seen a position advertised today for car rental counter staff, they to need a degree...WTF?
Best of luck

Personal experience: I have applied and been offered a post that required degree back home but not here. Current position didn't require a degree-level education and I'm in it. However I have seen shop vacancies that have degree in their wish-list.
It certainly helps to have as much education and shiny certificates as possible. Just be aware that they will require (in some instances) you to explain clearly the equivalence between your own qualifications and the Canadian ones. Makes sense I suppose.

Re: Degree
Judy ... Good question for which there is really no answer.
Some employers will insist on a degree or even a few. Others really do not care. In other cases they may require that one is working towards a degree.
Sometimes it starts of with a degee on their wish list (the nice-to-have category) but then it simply comes down to supply and demand. In other words it all depends on the competition.
(The other side of the coin is that I have met a few cab drivers who have doctorates or masters. I also met a janitor who was a full fledged accountant from Mexico.)
In other instances degrees are not the issue. Whether one has one, or lacks one, they may still insist on Canadian experience. (As if similar experience in another western country wouldn't suffice?)
But, whatever the trade or profession, the bottom line is that without a degree they will probably hire the person much cheaper.
I guess there will be exceptions (night club dancers, escorts, etc.)

Try Medhunters, there are jobs advertised for lab technicians in hospitals
and private labs. Look into their website and make some inquiries.
www.medhunters.com and look into Allied health jobs.
If he is not working in health related area, then check into Workopolis.com

Hi wordsunspoken,
I forgot to mention www.jobbank.gc.ca
When you go into the website, click onto
Engineer,Architect,IT,Nat.Science category.
Grande Prairie, Alta. has vacancies for Enviromental Tech.
to do soil testings and no degree required. Job ad.is on page7
There are similar jobs in Fort Mcmurray but housing is a problem.
Anyway ,good luck with the job search. Yoong
