Deemed Resident Benefit?

In 2008 I stayed in Canada for 184 days (not in one streach). Can some one please tell me what kind of benefits I can get? I mean to say will I be eligible for 9,600 Tax rebate which is for all candian resident tax payers?

It's not a tax rebate it's a tax credit which if you earned income it would be applied when you filed a tax return.

Essentially you are not entitled to anything.

To be very precise, it's a NON REFUNDABLE tax credit.

The OP is a deemed resident of Canada and is required to pay tax in Canada on their world-wide income in 2008. Which sucks.

Yes, you get this as a deemed resident.

Doesn't the OP mean - if he sends in his nil tax return will they send him a cheque for $9600?

That is what I wondered at first. If the OP does mean that they will be sadly disappointed. That is why I stressed it is a non-refundable tax credit. If you don't use it, you loose it.

If they have to file a tax return in Canada as a deemed resident, they are entitled to the same federal tax credits as a factual resident.
