I can highly recommend Saltys in Halifax, part of Historic Properties on the waterfront.

We've eaten at MacAskill's a few times and always had a good meal, view of the harbour is great too

Have been to La Perla a couple of times. It's okay, but not a favourite or somewhere I'd go back to in a hurry

If you can get to Burnside, there is a great Lebanese restaurant close to the Ramada Hotel. It's called Kababji, 202 Brownlow Ave, Dartmouth, just behind Jack Sprat Cafe. Think it's only open lunchtimes though.

Forgot to add The Coast, a free weekly newspaper - can get from libraries, local cafes etc. Lists all sorts of events, venues, bars,etc
