Re: Current Jobs on the North Shore of Nova Scotia, Truro, Oxford, Amherst,Tatamagouc
Hi Ontheboatout,
we are seriously trying to move to Canada initially Ottawa to be near family, but have since found that it wold be virtually impossible for us to get in.We have since thought of Nova Scotia and or the Maritimes as an ideal area to bring up a young family. I have switched jobs in the last 2 years moving from a Chemical Process Tech of 20 years ,to a Operations Tech with BP in Grangemouth in Scotland. The idea behind that was to give myself Petro Chemical experience thus enabling me to get into the Oil & Gas industry in Canada  The boss is not so keen to move westward but would rather stay in the east ,not to far from Scotland. So the way to get it in is, if i have a job offer? Then i can come over with my family and start a new life To cut a short story shorter do yo have any info on the Oil & Gas in your neck of the woods. Cheers Arty & Co |

We moved from Aberdeen to NS last year. Mr Y-C-D spent 18 years working offshore (telecoms) and came here with idea of NOT working offshore on a rota ever again ;)
His company are looking for more wireless/telecom workers (on and offshore) and are looking to the UK to hire as they have been unsuccesful in recruiting from within NS or Canada. They went through LMO with my husband. Here are some websites for you: Careerbeacon Workopolis Job Bank :) |

I think you have to be really careful about posting things like this, as it is very misleading. There might be jobs around, but as those of living in NS know, most of these are going to be given to people already living in the area. As someone else has pointed out when you first posted this information, NS do not like people from away and will give preference to locals when filling these jobs. I think you are falsely raising people's hopes and making them think there are lots of opportunities in your area, when the reality is very different.

To be fair, we talk a lot about NS not giving jobs to those from "away". But tbh, when I am recruiting, faced with an application from England and one from (as a recent live example) Africa, I would always go with the person who I can meet in advance, find out info about from past employers etc.
I know there are a lot less people in NS, but it is not the one person every 200 miles that we appear to give the impression of sometimes!! Just my two penneth anyway Rachel |

Yes- can- do
cheers for the reply, to be quite honest i would take any job that would allow us to come over legit, just to get in the door so to speak :) If that means doing offshore so be it,i have thought of doing that here in Scotland but i doubt i would make much more than i am getting just now in my present employer.I am home every day even though i do Day shifts  and night shifts :curse:,but if i could get a foot hold in Nova Scotia or Newfoundland bring it on  I fear time is running out for us ,we are both 43 and our oldest Mhairi is 14 so i really have to move sooner rather than later, before Mhairi can say NO when she turns 16:ohmy: But nthanks for the reply and being so forward as the wife says i can be, any inside info on jobs in my favoured career would be gladly accepted. Cheers Arthur Alison,Mhairi & Lewis :p PS I am under no illusion, i realise i will make less money than i am just now ,but we are in this for the quality not the quantity. |

Hi Liana,
my own thoughts are that the locals would be preferred to incomers and in reality so it should be. I take it that jobs are in short supply ,to be quite honest i dont need to make that much ,just enough for us to get by on as i would be bringing enough to keep us comfortable for a while until our pensions kick in:confused: and the way thing s are going in the UK that will be when i am in my seventies:lol: Thanks for your info cheers Arty Alison ,Mhairi & Lewis |

Don't worry too much about your age. Mr Y-C-D got his job offer at the age of 50, off an internet add whilst still living in the UK. Also check out this website http://www.mnpp.com/canada/ and have a look at the yellow pages :) |
