Re: CSE's
I have been told by college in Canada, that GCSE's are not equivalent to year 12, only A' levels. If you did wish to apply to a college you would have to sit their exams to test your ability in English and Maths. They do not recognise O levels either for us older ones! ( I was going to go on a student visa so applied to a college)
I have seen these papers and the way I see it is our GCSE's are equivalent to their year 12 high school papers. We actually start school at 4 years of age too, where as they are 6 so we must be ahead by a couple of years. Judging by some children I have met their ability to spell and write English, is awful compared to my daughter at 16. QUOTE=bloke]I am just about to send my CSE's to W.E.S to get equvalised. Re: CSE's
Hi All,
thanks for replying so promptly. Fight or Flight: W.E.S stands for World Education Services, they are an Academic Assessment Service based is Toronto its the place I'm going to be sending my CSE's for equvilency. Gooding: When I graduated school it was in 1971 they didnt have GCSE's back then only CSE and GCE. I didnt sit any GCE's only CSE's, GCE being the better one to have. I am not applying to collage, I am applying for a job that insists on grade 12 hence the the need to have my stuff equvilised. What I wanted to know was this, are my CSE's good enough as grade 12 because if they are not I will save the $100 and not bother sending them to be checked. Bob Hope: can you add to that? Chris |
Re: CSE's
Well, being an old fart too, I have CSE's and was assessed by IQAS ( International qualifications assessment service) in Alberta and was assessed at a grade 12 education. Just ensure that you put your starting age at 4 years old then completing secondary education finishing at 16 and bob's ya uncle!! ......At least I'm old enough to be! Hope this helps.

Re: CSE's
You have given me hope! Not that I need it now as I actually will be self employed when I am there, BUT I may too apply to have the assessment done incase I am ever asked in the future. I expect each college / employer is different as to their prerequisites in each province. I certainly do not think at my age I should be asked to sit exams again, after completing college over 25 years ago, having some great jobs and successfully running my own businesses for the past 15 years!
I was a bit taken a back when they insisted I take a year 12 equivalency exam in Maths and English for a Business Studies course. As a Technical Illustrator I could not have done my job without an excellent knowledge of maths, and I am English born and bread, and studied at a Grammar School in the days when we still had to use proper English, and grammar. Glad I did not need to go down the student visa route though, due to land on 10th December and cannot wait.
