can anyone please tell me the implications of having a 2 year old conviction for criminal damage (£200), in regards to applying for residency

my partner and i are looking into moving to canada, i am a truck driver and have been scowering truck site to be told that we will not be alowed in the contry with my conviction

is this true? and are there any ways around it?

I think you're screwed. When I applied five years ago, a CCJ was enough to make you ineligible. I can't imagine that the Canadian govt. has become more lenient since then. Certainly not if the conviction is so recent.

Try posting in "Immigration" section rather than "lifestyle and culture"???

I believe it must be five years old , clear since then and apply for rehabilitation. Experts in Immigration forum will advise details.

Good luck,

Rich.

Truck drivers seem to be in great demand, so would an option be to initially enter on a renewable work permit (no police checks as far as I can see) and apply for rehabilitation once the 3 years are up. Just a thought!!

Why did a CCJ judegement make you ineligable? I thought that it was only criminal offenses. Just shows how little I know.

Not necessarily. I used CCJ because it was quicker to type, not because it was correct.
