Just want to start building our credit for when we get out there.

Re: credit card

not sure, though it doesn't take long to build up.
I'm on a TWP and had to put down a grand to get one from RBC, used it religiously for 4 months and then applied for one through Presidents Choice and got accepted no problem with no money down and a bigger limit than my RBC one.

Re: credit card

It's a ball ache to get one tbh.

We have a Premier Account with HSBC and it still took us 3 months to get one with HSBC.

Bit of a joke really!

Re: credit card

If you have an american express in the UK then you can get a Canadian amex with no Canadian credit history - they just take your credit history from the UK.

Not sure if it for all amex cards but it is for the one I was/am on (the BA one in the UK)

I think you need 12 months UK Amex history though

Re: credit card

ok I have checked - on my UK online amex login there is a link to transferring your card and getting a canadian credit card. One of the notes on the site says this;

• To be eligible for a Card transfer, your Consumer Card (includes Small Business, where applicable) must be issued by
American Express. You must be the Basic Cardholder, and have held the Card for at least 3 months. Your Card Account must be open and in good standing at the time of the transfer request, or if the Card was previously cancelled by you,
it must have been cancelled within the last 3 months. (Corporate Cards, International Dollar Cards and Global Network Cards are not eligible for Card transfers)

When you get here go to an RBC branch.... They do a new comer account with a c/card. There is no deposit needed , just open an account..... That's what I did.....

Good luck with the move

Amex wouldn't let us change from UK to Canada even with over 5 years history with them. Was with HSBC and sorted bank and credit cards whilst still in the UK

Oh so maybe it isn't all amex - just certain ones. I couldn't transfer my original amex that I have had for about 4 years (I didn't try though but I wasn't told I could) but I was able to transfer my BA amex which I have had for about 6 months

Re: credit card

Well I have a normal Amex and an avios Amex through Lloyds TSB, so think I will need to do some more research

Re: credit card

It has to be a personal Amex that is issued directly by American Express (i.e. you go to americanexpress.com to pay your bill)
