cream tea anyone?
 
hi , just wondering if someone could tell me what the canadian equilvalent is to clotted cream? or better still , can you tell me where i could buy it ? i cant find it anywhere . do we sell it under a different name?
i have a british friend who is a little homesick so i thaught i would cheer her up and invite her over for scones , fruitcake and cucumber sandwiches and a good pot of earl grey . :)

I saw it in Safeway. Didn't want it so didn't pay particular attention but it was definitely there, 2 brands if I remember rightly. Next to the yoghurt section.

It may be called double cream, Devon cream, or double Devon cream. If all else fails, I think extra thick cream would work too.

How homesick is she?....as you can always make your own if you wanted!!!! :eek: Title: MAKING YOUR OWN DEVONSHIRE OR CLOTTED CREAM

Yield: 1 servings


In winter, let fresh, unpasteurized cream stand 12 hours, (in summer,
about 6 hours) in a heat-proof dish. Then put the cream on to heat -
the lower the heat the better. It must never boil, as this will
coagulate the albumen and ruin everything. When small rings or
undulations form on the surface, the cream is sufficiently scalded.
Remove at once from heat and store in a cold place at least 12 hours.
Then skim the thick, clotted cream and serve it very cold as a
garnish for berries, or spread on scones and top with jam.

hi judy! quebec doesnt have a wide variety of cream , however if all else fails , i will buy the 35 % . however, i think i might give the other posters recipe a shot first. thanks sarah

oh just buy double cream, make your own little sticker sayin "Devonshire Clotted Cream" and prit stick it on to the tub. Make the scones yurself (pm me if u need the recipe) and put a blob of jam on top............she'll never know...she probably only needs yur company and a wise word of why she's there in the first place

Yep its at room temp!!! so the cream rises to the top!!, now i haven't done this myself yet still in the UK I can buy it from just about everywhere, but my Mum did when they first when to Canada about 40 years ago, and I would say buy thick cream why bother with the hassle, but we just had my sister and family, and my sisters two friends from Montreal stay with us, they have never been to the uk before....and Never indulged in Clotted cream and scones!!!, and well they said they had never had anything so decadent in their lives !!! they even had a cream tea at 6am just before heading to the airport to return to Canada, as they said they wanted to savour that taste all the way home LOL :D , and so seeing their reaction I feel sure if your a clotted cream lover, only the real thing will do!!! :D
