This post has become about pure envy.

First up, as others have said, make sure that you can actually get here.
I quite like Burlington. Probably going to be shunned by others from Oakville now These days, depending on what type of property you're looking at, it's not that much difference price wise from Oakville.
Travel to Toronto wise. If you wish to drive, then could be anywhere from 35 minutes to an hour or more, all depends on traffic and time of day.
GO Train is pretty good, can get on a train that would be express from Oakville or Clarkson to Union, or, out of rush hour, an all stops train. It's about 40 mins from Oakville to Exhibition (all stops train), so probably 45 to union, and express would likely be about 30 mins.

Or if you want even cheaper housing, try Hamilton- you have 'the Link' or the Redhill Parkway - and the 403/407 within easy access for travel to Toronto and there's the GO train or the GO bus (coach) from downtown which takes just over an hour.

I gotta say that I'm a bit baffled by this sudden love for Burlington. It's alright but it's a just another piece of suburban sprawl, cheaper than Oakville but even farther from everything. I've never thought to deliberately go there in thirty years of living nearby, so the idea that someone could look at a map of the world and focus their dreams on Burlington strikes me as quite odd.
If work is in Toronto, why not aim to live in Toronto?

It also stages Canada's largest rib fest every Labour Day weekend.
Outside of that there is no reason to be in the hood.

I actually like Burlington, it's got a few good Brit pubs, a few decent other drinking and eating establishments, lots of festivals and events - Sound of Music, Ribfest, British Car show, Kids festival - and a reasonable 'downtown core'. A short drive takes you to a sand beach and Spencer Smith Park on the waterfront is a nice place to stroll.

Bronte Creek is in Oakville, but on the border with Burlington.

And there's always IKEA. Lovely place to visit on a wet Saturday. You can even find somewhere for a quiet nap. Don't get the butter chicken from the café though - it's horrible.

And certainly not, under any circumstances, if you are hungover.

Nickel Brook is a decent brewery. They do a very good imperial stout (Bolshevik Bastard), and the barrel aged variants (Winey and Kentucky Bastard) are outstanding if you're in to that sort of thing.
I understand they're turning over that entire brewery location to focus on sours (limited run of their new Flanders Red and Bruin in stock right now - which is the main reason I'll be heading down soon), and the non-sour stuff will use the production facility at Arts And Science in Hamilton (the old Lakeport site, also home of Collective Arts).
If you're any sort of beer fan, it's well worth a visit. Plenty to sample and take home that you can't easily get in the LCBO.
e2a: it'a right by the GO station (although I'm not sure if you can actually walk there - IIRC, it didn't look that way, but there's a stupid amount of construction going on at the station so this may or may not be a temporary blip)

Re: Couple from Liverpool, looking for new life in Burlington, Ontario
I met a lady from Oakville yesterday in Charlottetown, she was on holiday and when I asked if she was enjoying PEI she said looked around very disdainfully and said "Well...its certainly no Oakville. I wouldn't even say it was Burlington, not EVEN Hamilton. I suppose I'm just not used to places like this." With a dramatic eye roll and sigh.
I have absolutely no idea what she meant, or why she was being snobby, and when I told her that I was a bit baffled she glared, huffed a bit and when whinged about the lack of facilities and nice food in grocery stores in Charlottetown .
I think Ch'town has great facilities, and her weird snobbiness might have been a bit less bemusing if she wasn't in the (ridiculously long) queue in Dollarama with a basket of cheap shower gels and deodorant.
Sorry OP, I don't think that's helpful but maybe its a cryptic message which will make more sense to Ontario dwellers!

I grew up in Burlington and now am in the UK, let's just say it is not nearly as neat and tidy out here
Burlington has a beautiful lake front (Spencer Smith Park) and the houses on Lakeshore Drive are beautiful. It is well appointed with amenities and has 2 Go (train and bus) stations. It is close to McMaster University which is one of the best universities in Canada. It's within a 35-50 minute drive to Toronto but this varies depending on traffic. The general look of the city is clean and tidy suburbs, which some people find boring but I love.
here is a video someone driving through the downtown core:

Hi there,
My name is Rich, I'm 34 and currently reside in Stockport while working in Macclesfield.
When people ask me how serious I am about starting our new life I tell them simply this I'm going to have to sell my Liverpool season ticket. Yeah, that's how serious I am.

I was born in Stockport (lived in Disley, Hayfield, and Birch Vale) and I wouldn't put Stockport high in the glamour world.
