Default A couple of interesting articles on the Canadian economy and job market.

I know that these are both written by a migration consultancy who have a vested interest in painting a rosy picture of Canada, but I thought they might make interesting reading anyway.

Firstly Canada has the soundest banking system in the world (read about this in the Economist so it is accurate): http://www.migrationexpert.com/Canad...st_bank_system

And secondly how against expectations, Canadian unemployment is stable (atm) at 6.1%: http://www.migrationexpert.com/Canad...dded_in_Canada

"...the World Economic Forum's latest Global Competitiveness report... ranked Canada 10th out of 134 countries in terms of overall competitiveness."

Most of the job growth they refer to was part time jobs and other temporary jobs created by the recent election. Do you know who the biggest employer is in Canada is?

Here in Edmonton there are literally cajillions of jobs. Everywhere has vacancy signs up, everyone is struggling to get staff...

When we were in Canada in September I was amazed at all of the 'help wanted' signs in the windows of the shops.

The job market will vary across the country

Don't go looking for jobs where a GM, Chrysler, Ford plant is/might have been and add in Nortell too
Some industries are going down the toilet

and if Oil stays below $60 a barrel the same will start in northern Alberta

so its sit back watch and hope

Interesting fact.....BTW it is where I have gone to renew my Cdn passport as the lineups at the Ottawa office are always very long and they process passports in a faster timeframe.

To be at Portage at 4 or 4:30 and see the drones leaving is quite a mind numbing experience.

The trick to using the Ottawa office is not to go during the lunch break. I went at about noon, saw the line-up and buggered off to the pub. It was pretty empty when I got back.
