Countersigning passport renewal, who?
Hi
My husband needs to renew his UK passport but we are wondering who can countersign it? It states doctor, teacher or someone of a similar standing but what professions does that mean? Who did you get to countersign yours?
Any help appreciated!

I've never understood why teachers, doctors, lawyers etc can do this when "ordinary" people cannot. People that do so-called "professions" are just as likely to be scum as a car mechanic or the guys that do IT jobs fixing computers. It's all very 19th century if you ask me.

I've countersigned loads of passport photos over the years and I just put "Company Director"; never been a problem. Don't you have to have known the person for at least 2 years or something similar?

I thought this bit was interesting: http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-...ntersignatures
"... If you are unable to provide a counter signature, because you have recently moved to the country of application or are short-term visitors, provided our consular staff have no doubts regarding your identity you may not need to provide a counter signature. Proof of identity may include your previous passport bearing a photograph showing that you are clearly the same person, or any other photographic ID may be acceptable.... "
So theoretically, I presume you could send a copy of your Drivers Licence or your PR Card or Health Card - they all bear your photo, your signature and date of birth.

The use of company director as an occupation always makes me laugh. It could mean Sir Alan Sugar, it could mean Ted the double glazing man that lives next door who wishes to avoid liability for crappy products/installation.
