Default Cost of a nutritious food basket

There was an article in the local paper about this. 60 or so foods are priced, they are what dieticians consider are the contents of a nutritious food shop. No junk food, crisps, ready prepared food are included.

I've done a quick google and this is what I have found across Canada
Weekly costs of a food shop for a family of four, based on various websites. These are for 2008 unless otherwise stated.

Toronto $136.28

Northumberland county Ontario $140.81.

Dufferin, Ontario $149.09

Calgary $164.52

Edmonton 162.76

Nova Scotia $172.08 2007

in BC, average $178.00
Vancouver $179

Saskatchewan average of $172 2007

There you go.

Thanks Judy

If anyone wants to do a local search for the areas they live in they can learn such things as; the income for a family of four on welfare ( Ontario Works) is
$1,782.00. A low income family might earn $1517 and after child and family benefits, have an income of $2,128.00. The average monthly rent might be $1363, including electricity and heat.
