COST OF LIVING

Re: COST OF LIVING
Lifestyles are different for everyone. Choices are different for everyone. It seems life in some provinces allows for choices that cannot be made in other places.

Re: COST OF LIVING
It looks like the big difference with Canada compared to UK or OZ is that you can find dirt cheap houses if you're willing to live in regional communities. A part from that it looks like costs are pretty much on par. Food and petrol slightly cheaper but insurance, taxes and utilities (due to climate) considerably higher.
My experience living in Canada a few years back (late nineties) was that the job market there was bad - poor conditions, mediocre pay and "who you" know was more important than "what you know". Hopefully things are better now.

Re: COST OF LIVING
Metro Moncton has a population about 50% higher than Bath. It's not a big city by any means but a decent size with a pop of around 120,000.
House prices are rising but you still get places like this 3 bed, 2 bathroom detached house for under $100k.

Not sure what you mean by regional communities. Would the City of Bath, UK count?

Re: COST OF LIVING
London is within commutable distance….
Moncton may be similar in size but it has very little else in common

Re: COST OF LIVING
London commutable? If you love 2 hrs+ car journeys or 1.5 hrs+ train trips in and out of the city yes...

Re: COST OF LIVING
I was only countering the point about regional communities; the suggestion being that cheap houses are only available in some out of the way place without the advantages of city living. That's just not true.
A triplex but there are other houses under $125K much bigger than the 900 sqft house mentioned earlier. Probably even more in Saint John too.

Re: COST OF LIVING
$125k, what a rip off!
How about this, 4 beds $60k, two minutes walk from the nice waterfront park and trails.
Ottawa or Toronto less than two hours away, Montreal a couple of hours more... not that you would need to go too often.

Re: COST OF LIVING
A Triplex....that's a little misleading though don't you think to quote a 3000 sqft home which is in fact 3 in a not particularly nice area of town. ( no offense meant )
