Coquilam!

Can anyone offer any 1st hand knowledge of this area - oh and how do you pronounce it:blink: Mike is in touch with a company from this area, we have done no research at all as we were not looking here, so thought would ask quick question then trawl through the internet looking for info whilst waiting for replies.

Thanks in advance

There's a few members living in Coquitlam (Co-kwit-lam!!) and the tri-cities (Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody) so you will get lots of advice, I am sure. It's a large and varied area, lots of very hi-end housing as well as lower cost. Good schools, lots of ameneties.

Good luck.

The Tri-cities part of the wiki on metro Vancouver is only a few lines. If anyone can post some more detailed information on this thread I'll be happy to incorporate it into the wiki.

Coquitlam is a lovely green area, mountainous and that is where the bears live. Properties are also cheaper there.

I have not posted for a while just settling in ok.

Yep - lot of new developments built right into bear habitat....
A couple of bears had to be killed in August - A woman was attacked in one incident & a bear broke through a window and entered a home's basement suite in another

We looked around the tri cities area. It's a nice area, has a very suburbia feel to it though. Housing is cheaper than the north shore, but traffic is bad. You can commute to downtown on the west coast express.

Unfortunately it's the bears that need to be fleeing for their lives

Hi all - thanks for all the replies - from what I have seen I quite like the area - but I must admit my heart still lies in Kamloops!

This job offer has really thrown us into a spin - I think this is probabally going to be the hardest decision yet - do we go in "blind" for want of a better word having not visited the area or do we just hope that another job comes up. The thing is jobs are not that easy to get from UK plus jobs which you really enjoy are certainly not that easy to get even in CA at the beginning - I think I may be talking myself into this one and just go in blind - we can always move etc later if we cannot get on with the area.

I think that paragraph was me talking to myself really - still anymore help from anyone would be appreciated in helping us.
Lesley

There was a black bear playing tennis on our local school tennis court in Fraser Heights a few weeks ago. Poor thing lost the set and got shot!;)
