The Controlled Goods Program (CGP) for Expats Brits
Non citizens (ie perm residents) the CGP clearance forms can take up to 8 months. Anyone know a quick work around for expats for this government declaration form?

Mine took six months, in no small part due to long waits for police checks in the UK. I believe those are faster today, which may help.
Didn't cause any problems for me, but I don't actually work on any of that stuff, we just all have to get cleared because some people in the building do.

Well even 6 months seems quick to what I've heard . I assume your a citizen? If your not born in Canada it can take 8 months or even never so I hear . Surely if you've just done immigration processing for your PR (and thats where you've had fresh criminal checks / police certificates) there should be a quicker process?

I am now, but wasn't at the time. One thing to consider is that I had to get ink fingerprints back then, whereas for my citizenship checks I got digital fingerprints, which are processed much faster. So that may be another way to speed up the checks.
