Contract signed - Saskatchewan here we come

Thats me signed and returned my contract to my new employer and started filling out the SINP forms, finally after 18 months or so of looking its finally taking off.
our visa is for me, my wife and our 4 year old BUT my wife is pregnant and will be having the baby before we go to canada, Do i just call up immagration and organise a passport for the baby.
We have many hurdles to cross, 2 dogs to transport, our house needs rented, we need to organise a container for our possessions, then ill fly out for 2 or 2 weeks to find a property and a car. Our options are limited as we need a pet friendly house and maybe even a furnished one as I don't know if we will be bringing all our stuff.
Anyone living in Regina feel free to Pm me with any tips or your experiences
Is there any direct flights from scotland to Canada? cant find any to Calgary as i could drive from there to Regina in about 8.5 hours

Congrats! You managed to get them to increase the wage then?

Not sure what you mean by 'do I just call up immigration and organise passport for the baby' - for a UK passport you'll need to apply via the usual method i.e. forms, you can't just phone up to get it. Or did you mean visa?

As for direct flights, have a look at Skyscanner, as you can then just put 'UK' as the departure point and see all available options. There are definitely direct flights from Scotland to Canada, but I'm not sure which cities they go to/from off the top of my head.

HTH.

Hi,
Not exactly but it gets reviewed again at 12 weeks, the reason for the lower salary is because im a plant / heavy equipment mechanic to trade and the job i have is on HGV's , this means i need some training etc once qualified ill be on around $32-34 dollars an hour. Most of the other jobs in the area seem to be about $20-25.

With regards to the baby I men't for his or her Visa once I have filled out the forms for a passport, a little worried that we may need to go through the whole immigration visa process again for the newly born when it appears, This will add months and mean me potentially going out with my wife and children

You can get a direct flight from Glasgow to Toronto, then get a connecting flight to Regina,Westjet is good airline for internal flights in Canada. You dont really want to be driving a long distance in winter if you can avoid it.

Glasgow to Toronto is actually pretty cheap - $450, Thursdays with Transat. Next leg to Regina is as cheap as $250

Not sure when you are planning on your trip, but don't plan on driving if it's winter. You're better off flying into a larger Canadian airport (Toronto, Montreal, Calgary) and then getting a connection to Regina. WestJet I believe does codeshares with BA; Air Canada has buckets of direct flights to various places in the UK. As Oompa suggested, SkyScanner is great for just finding a departure airport in the UK and making plans from there.

Good luck!

We had a baby during the PNP process, we just called them up to advise and they asked us to send a copy of her birth certificate and the photo page of her passport when it arrived. It was no trouble at all. Although this was for Ontario.

Congratulations on the move James.
Me and the missus are in the process of immigrating too. We also have two dogs to transport and would be interested in how you guys get on with it, it terms of what companies seem good and prices etc.

Good luck with the move!

Hi
Plenty on threads on this kind of thing - we flew our two dogs over in Summer 2013. Try this thread for instance. It gives you an idea of the options available.

Thanks bucks family. very helpful thread. Out of interest which way did you do it and how did you find the experience?
thanks again.

Post #16 on that thread I linked to ;-)

Also have a look at this thread - posts #27 and #29

Long story short - whole process was pretty straightforward and not expensive, relative to the rest of the move. Others have done it differently and used third-parties to help with the move, and that's certainly an option but you might start to look in four figures for the cost.

There are a huge load of threads about shipping companies and people's experiences. Please read those threads, and try to avoid hijacking someone else's thread. jamesmacc started this thread with some of his own questions, so best to leave the thread to address his original post. :)

In the meantime, use the search function and you will find absolute buckets of threads on shipping.

I would strongly advise against driving from Calgary to Regina in the winter

A rental car on crap tyres, on the wrong side of the road than what you're used to and snow/cold conditions, after potentially 24+hrs awake (can only go via London to Calgary in winter) is a recipe for disaster mate.

Find the cheapest way to do a connection flight and do it that way!

A couple of things to bear in mind – OP hasn’t said he’ll be driving in winter. His wife is 16 weeks pregnant, and he’s said they’ll move after the baby is born, so I reckon that makes it summer or autumn.

Also, he has a big dog to fly over, and it might not be possible to fly it into Regina on a connecting flight from Toronto or Calgary, or it might be prohibitively expensive, which is why he is considering driving from Calgary.

I’m sure the OP will be along to clarify.

I read it that he'd be coming over himself to set up for a couple of weeks and they would follow...its not the clearest

Regardless of weather though, i still wouldn't wanna drive from Calgary to Regina with a wife and babies in tow! That said, it is a straight, flat boring road, set the cruise control and go to sleep maybe?

Are pets flying domestic usually quite expensive? I know the last couple of flights i've been on (YYC-YEG and YYC-YYZ) people have collected dogs at the baggage collection area

Re: Contract signed - Saskatchewan here we come

I think the issue with the dog is the size - at 40kg, then with a super large travel crate, it might not be able to go as excess baggage and might need to be moved as freight. The cost of this might mean that a drive along the trans-canada is more feasible.

Re: Contract signed - Saskatchewan here we come

sorry folks should have been more clear. Im flying out first for 2 or 3 weeks to find a house and hopefully a car, then flying home to sort the shipping container and do the final big move with kids and dogs.
I Have done quite a lot of driving on the other side of the road in america so that doesn't bother me to much but yes it is a long drive after a long flight in a crappy rental car .
im trying to see if i can find a large pet friendly internal flight from Calgary to regina.

thanks everyone for your replies

Blimey Jamesmacc your situation sounds just like ours, we are moving to Saskatoon and i got a lot of help from the kind people on here. We just got several removal companies round to give us quotes. They were all about the same price apart from Pickfords who were the most expensive. We have 2 dogs to bring and are struggling to find a pet friendly house too. I have got 2 condos lined up to view when i get there. We arranged these off Kijiji by texting the people as emailing them didn't work and they got back to us straight away and are very helpful. I fly out at the end of this week and getting very nervous now as my family are following on later when I'm settled into my job.
