Thats in NS..
Its a bit crap if you have UK qualifications, I had 30 yrs scaffolding and every card available, still had to do the course tho...
Most of the work is union run, so your a bit stuck without the course...

My OH is in the union as a drywaller - given journeyman status due to his proof of previous work experience and certificates. No course required.

Union rate for journeymen drywallers is 29 bucks an hour - it is significantly less non union.

Non union can earn more as they can work on pricework. Not all work is unionized and some subcontractors have two companies (one union whilst the other is non-union).

One problem is that (similar to the Eastern Europeans in the UK), there are a lot of Mexicans working in Drywall and this has resulted in rates tighting. Fair play to them as they are making money whilst he sun shines! (Although in BC I does seem to shine half enough! LOL).

A good place to look at rates and availability of works is Craigslist.ca which has jobs advertised.

I hope this helps.

And you wonder why we ask questions and examine bags. There again karma might be the eventual removal order of said friend.

If he is working in private homes and he gets injured he could always sue the owner (more likely as he won't have any other avenues available to him). It maybe wrong but that is why you should know who you are employing prior to them starting.
