Re: Considering move to Calgary help needed...
Hello folks,
Just wanted to give you an update. Arrived in Calgary 4 weeks ago and managed to get a place to stay in the SW of the city. Spent the first week trawling job websites and looking up potential companies. Was also ill that week so was on a bit of a 'go slow'. Managed to arrange a meeting with Robert Half (Recruitment Agency) a week after arriving (was a Tuesday). Had an interview that same week on the Friday. Accepted a verbal offer the next week on the Wednesday and started work on the following Monday (March 12th). Have been there now 2weeks and enjoying it. My guardian angel must have been working hard because everything has gone like clockwork. House in Winnipeg got valued yesterday and that went well. Calgary is a nice city but I still think Winnipeg has its own charm. Its a shame I couldn't have found a job similar to the one I have now over in Winnipeg. Thanks to all of you for your help. p.s. people here are great too, not seen that 'Cowboy' mentality at all. Many VP's in our offices are women. |

congrats and thanks for the update.
Sexism is alive and well certainly in the more rural parts of AB, that I can assure you. Mainly because of the roots when the men would be out farming and the women would be home looking after the kids and the home and the men in the field. Nowadays I think womens lib has bitten us in the ass because we are also now expected to do the outside work too, while the guys still have their downtime with the boys at the end of the day while we try and finish cleaning house, bathing and bedding kids before we get to relax lol. |
