That's not true with the minimum wage jobs though where it's $10.50 an hour, despite a higher cost of living in Vancouver that us less then what people in the UK bring in

Wow, that is low. Just googled it and in fact seems to be $10.25, although I suppose if it's hospitality industry the tips are bound to be higher.

A lot of the oilsands projects , gas plants etc are in the middle of the boonies so work camps are set up close to site for accommodations - quite a few of them are fly in fly out - pretty much like offshore
