There isn't really anything like that on offer in the UK, I came to Canada because of the money and I wouldn't have come to Canada otherwise the standard of living isn't great in Canada if you aren't making enough money.
Camps lol.

I would never go back, there is better work in BC mines in nice locations but I am happy I did do it, it's set me up for life which I couldn't have got in the UK and a few years of hell is well worth it.

The standard of living isn't great anywhere if you aren't making enough money . But my standard of living is certainly much better here than it was in England.

Except for the cost of cheese and samosas and the lack of good sausage rolls...

Without accounting for lifestyle and benefits, that's utterly meaningless.

Back home, I nominally earned about 140% of average. But as a single young man, all I got was my wage minus taxes. Someone with a far lower wage income but married with 2 kids has a rather higher income than me (albeit split among more people) after government gives them tax credits, child benefits, and other rewards for living the kind of lifestyle they approve of.

Magnify those permutations around all the different systems around the world...

The person with a family also has higher costs, childcare for example, so your point is equally meaningless.

Well actually, as I said, it's split among more people. My point is that the "analysis" is far too simplistic to say where you're better off.

We already went through all this in the price comparison thread, this gives you a better idea as it is based on real-world experience: Cost Of Living Comparison Between Canada And United Kingdom

Plus Canada is a very large country geographically and I suspect varies by region a great deal more than the UK does.

And also - cost of living comparisons which they say they've taken into account does take into account all the tax differences and certainly compared with BC or Alberta, the rate of taxation is way lower here. So even if you earn less, you keep more of it, which muddies the comparison.

To be fair it is converting to "purchase parity power" dollars , so the cost of living is allegedly taken into account.

Presumably that includes taxes, but its not at all clear, and of course one size does not fit all there either, just as the cost of living in London is going to be substantially different to the cost of living in Loughborough or Longeaton, especially if you want to buy property.

Basically - it's BS, which is why I started the price comparison thread to compare things specifically.

Self selecting groups, like expats on here, are not representative of the general population. Anecdotal evidence and claims that this is BS are a bit asinine; yes, this might not apply to you - well done, you are better off than average. Have a cookie.

Don't work in a camp.

"Your wage is 518% of the Canada average and 954% of the world average."

Haha

I have worked in camps, in earlier years, and loved it....that being said they weren't in frigidly cold Canada...wild anythings wouldn't get me into that

Canada is so vast that salaries are going to be widely different. The company I am working for is looking for a couple of P.Engs and Physicists and the term I hear more than anything is "it's a good salary for Here" meaning, sod all for other parts Of Canada, but for Atlantic Canada, with the exception of St. John's NS, pretty good.
