U-Haul seeing record numbers moving to Atlantic Canada
According to the company, people are moving here in droves, far outweighing the number of people who are leaving...It appears the road to Atlantic Canada has nearly become a one-way street...U-Hauls observation of Canadians trending to Atlantic Canada fits with other industries. Realtors have been flat-out selling a record number of houses, often to people who have never stepped inside the building, relying instead on virtual tours...According to Mitchell's numbers, most people moving to the Maritimes are mainly from Ontario...

But that imbalance has created a bit of a nightmare for a U-Haul logistics manager..."We have a record number of equipment in Atlantic Canada."

Possibly but Ontarians cashing in on outrageous house prices in Ontario and buying properties in Atlantic Canada. Several years ago all the U Hauls were heading west to Alberta and Sask oil and gas sectors.
The only place I ever considered a potential move to is Halifax. PEI is great in the summer for a vacation but it is a small island and somewhat ideal for retirement. New Brunswick is well New Brunswick nothing earth shattering about that Province. The Rock well again somewhat isolated, great friendly people and could be fun sending postcards to the UK telling them you live in Dildo or Blow Me Down. There are worse places to live than Atlantic Canada but it won't be everybody's cup of tea and yes I have spent time in those Provinces. The odd ex pat have been known to move to Manitoba and Saskatchewan

I'm tempted to point out that you can't come to Atlantic Canada at present unless you have some sort of exemption. The Atlantic bubble remains in effect (& we're grateful for that). <277 cases total in Newfoundland. Atlantic Canada does have an opportunity, driven by the Coronavirus to appeal to people who want to move out of cities in ON and elsewhere for the piece, quiet and opportunity for a bigger house (so if you are quarantined at least you have some more space). Anything that can reverse outmigration and increase the tax base is a good thing!

I’m not going out that much at present...are any of us? Just to work and back, but last Saturday morning we counted six Ontario plates in a five minute journey, then last night coming home - a very short distance another three, and I’ve just been to the Superstore and there were more...it would look like Ontario has already arrived!

There have been stories in the news for the last year or 2, people who were fortunate to have the ability to buy in places like Vancouver, cashing in and moving to Atlantic Canada, buy a nicer house cash, and not needing to have the same level of career and income due to having amassed wealth in owning a house in certain areas that saw crazy increases.

I would do the same if we owned a house and could make a good profit off it, why stay in expensive places and pay a mortgage, if you have the option to sell and own a house free and clear and have a nice rainy day fund?

We did look into moving, but as renters doesn't make much sense, rent wasn't low enough in Halifax area, but wages lower so end result would have been no real net gain moving.

And Halifax was the only appealing city to us.

I saw a licence plate yesterday in Ottawa from Michoacan state in Mexico. That seems a long way away

Maybe some sort of Mexican government official?

I saw a Hawaii plate in Kelowna a couple weekends ago. It either flew or took a ship to get here....

I heard Kelowna mentioned on Monocle radio last night. It was because they mentioned it last week and someone had contacted them to say they pronounced it wrong.

I always thought it was Kell-own-a but apparently the people on the radio last week thought the OW was pronounced as in how.

Don Shebib released the sequel in 2011, but who knows what he could still do?

I saw Goin' Down The Road and Rip Off in the theatre way back when.
