Citizenship Timelines Update

We have just recieved our ID # and receipt from CIC regarding citizenship.

It took exactly 6 months for your info and states the process could be up to a further 12 months or so.

Sorry i'm not sure what the process is for citizenship but from your post it's sounding like it will take around 18 months start to finish?

Or am I reading it wrong?

When I applied back in October 2007 it took about 9 months in total. The acknowledgement letter I received in February 2008 said it would take 15 months but in the end it was a good bit quicker.

Well for me 12 months or under would be convenient (i will apply in december).

The way I am thinking is it takes 3 years before you can apply in canada then at the 4 year mark the wife can apply for British citizenship based upon living outside the country with a Brit for 4 years (thats what i read somewhere anyway).

That way if we have kids and one of us dies they get the choice of where they want to live and we get to follow:).

I would do some checking up on the British Citizenship for your wife. My Canadian OH has ILR in the UK but can't apply for British Citizenship until he's been resident in the UK for 3 years.

just to keep this thread updated for potential citizenship applicants...

citizenship application sent : Nov 18 , 2008
letter of acknowledgement received: today, April 20th , 2009
(but the letter was dated March 25... so I don't know if the mailman had it stashed for 4 weeks)

that's pretty normal it looks like they write and date the letter then hold on to it for a few weeks before mailing it:thumbdown:
