Citizenship test

Okay, I have had 16 months to learn everything in the book for the citizenship test, and now they have given me 2 weeks notice!!!:curse:

One week has already gone by and on Monday 10th September I have the test.

Has anyone (and I am sure there are many) who have done it and can remember how hard/questions/answers which may assist my husband and I.

Unless your husband is a drooling idiot, he won't have a problem.

Thanks, I have already answered some of the questions on the link and fortuanatly my husband is not an idiot, but is busy renovating my kitchen. My sons anticipate that I will pass no problem and husband will scrape a pass.

When we went to do ours, I asked what the pass mark was, the answer I got was 'it depends' Depends on what I ask, 'depends on the questions you get wrong' We passed so I guess we answered the right ones correctly. Wonder how many Canadians know all this stuff?

The citizenship court we went to was in a dowdy run down building in a strip mall. Not quite the salubrious surroundings we were expecting. When they take you in, you are seated well away from any other family taking the test and each candidate is spaced one seat apart.

Its a breeze, study the book and you should have no problem. You'll have to get OH out of the kitchen though to do his homework!

Look, my son, who is a drooling idiot (soon to graduate in philosophy from Queen's) pulled it off. Kitchen restorers should have no problems in comparison to that.

There are some questions which are an automatic fail if you get them wrong. If memory serves they are the questions about government and your rights as a Canadian Citizen.

GOOD LUCK :)

Re: Citizenship test

Forgot to say - if (in the unlikely event) that you do fail you can appeal to a judge :)

All the best

The test is a doddle. It consists of 20 multiple choice questions, drawn from a pool of questions. The pass mark is 12 but there are a couple of questions you must get right. As I recall, they deal with the rights/freedoms/voting stuff. Almost all the information you need to do the test is in the book; the important bits are highlighted. It's up to you to find out the names of your MP etc. (they didn't come up in my test). It took me about 4 minutes, including double checking, and I got them all right. I wasn't the first to finish.

This being Quebec, the test and ceremony were done the same morning. Some 50 people, from 25 countries, in a ratty community centre opposite a paper factory. No Mountie. I noted with some interest that the judge, clearly of anglophone European origins, only chatted to one of the new Canadians while dishing out the certificates.

What we did was to go to their website and do their online test and keep doing it. Loads of info sticks in your head then.

Thanks for all the links. We both passed the test today and it really was a doddle. You do have to read the book as I would not have known when confederation was or which were the first 4 provinces to join, but most was stuff you could work out.

We should get a letter within the next few months for a date to get sworn in and then we have a massive party!

Yep I took my test in August of 2005, letter received in December 2005 for the ceremony in early January 2006.
Friends threw a Canada party for me with food from each province, temporary tattoos (for the kids really) it was like a Canada Day party in January.
Have fun and congratulations.
