Citizenship exam

Hello to all

We have been called to take our citizenship exam (Ontario) wondering if anyone has experience of this, how hard, how long it takes etc. We were expecting it to take at least 15 months (the website said) and it has only taken 3 months with only a weeks notice!!
Cheers

If you've been in Canada for the requisite 3 years plus, and you're not brain-dead, it's a breeze.

Should take about 25 minutes, once you get past the bit where everyone has to prove (one at a time) that they can speak an official language. Which can take a while.

Bon chance.

Use this official site to answer the ALL the questions

http://www.yourlibrary.ca/citizenship/

We did it for the 2 days proir to the test walked in got papers waited go...... Two minutes out, including double check.

Don't worry about local mp's etc can't test you for that on a federal test.

Re: Citizenship exam

The only ones you have to get correct are the voting related ones. Other than that a read of the booklet should be enough to take in any extra info you might need, enough to meet the passmark. Just get him to focus on the section on rights and responsibilities of citizen, the rest is cake.

If you really want 100% (but really, who cares) it might be worth the effort to remember the name of local MP, provincial lieutenant gov (James Barleman in ON) and the governor general (Michaelle Jean), but as others said ,it would take a serious effort to fail otherwise for an native english speaker.

Good Luck anyway, but dont worry.

Unless they were dumb enough to ask for the French version.

just take the time and study the booklet that you were sent it is a 20 multiple choice questions and all based on the booklet. when I did mine last year it took 40 minutes standing in line to register and then 15 minutes listening to the women give instructions when it came time to do the test I was done in 5 minutes. Read the booklet and memorize it as best as you can.

One more question! I have telephoned the citizenship helplines etc but they dont know!! If we are taking the test in a different area than we live (we are pretty rural), different mayors, mp's etc which do we need to know, ours where we live or theirs where we are taking the test?? And what percentage do you have to get right to pass? Can't seem to find that out either..
I know i worry too much!!

You do. They dont tend to ask those micro detail questions, and if they do, it will only be one point out of however many, and should not in any way affect the final outcome.

At the risk of repeating, as the guide says, the ONLY ones you have to get right are the rights and responsibilities (and even then they cut you some slack on one of them)

I seem to recall outside of that the passmark is 60 or 70% or less...a monkey with a pencil and an understanding of english could pass.

The test is very easy..nothing to worry about. You require 12 out of 20 but need to get 2 or 3 specific questions on voting etc correct...it took me all of about 2 minutes to finish the test!

I went to it Grah, works fine. Not that I'm needing the Cdn Citizenship test but I was curious how it compares to the British test.
