Citizenship documents needed
 

Hello ,

I am in the process of getting Canadian citizenship. All I am waiting on is my oath ceremony. I has to fill out the RQ and now they are asking for more information. I am currently in school in the US but well within my residency requirements. Problem is they want all my lease agreements for 2008-2012. I lived in Canada those years but I wasn't always on the lease.

Any advice??

and to add to it I no longer have copies of old lease agreements I was on nor the contact information for the landlords.

Im going to send in my bank records but Im lost over what to do with the lease agreement situation.

Sounds like you're in a bit of a pickle!
If you paid rent by cheque maybe get copies from the bank but that is not what they're asking of you so I doubt this would be sufficient evidence. They want lease agreements, so you will have to, somehow, try and make contact with your old landlord(s) to get the copies you need.

Sorry, can't be of much help here, I just remember the RQ being very specific what they want.

Without the information, the only option is to acknowledge you don't have the information requested and see what transpires.

Would requesting a interview by wise?

Im still within my residency. I know im in the US for school currently but it was an opportunity I could not turn down. I'll be moving back for the summer months and every break from school I have in the next 1 and a half while I finish up.

No copy of any of the leases and no idea how to contact any of the landlords that you paid all that money to for 4 years !!!!! Seriously?

I smell BS pal. And so will the CIC, in fact they have, they want the info for their records. I see no easy way out of this one.

thanks for the nice attitude. no not BS. I had wife then we split up then roommates. I have proof I worked there. I will be contacting my bank there to get statements. And Over time I lost the contact info for the landlords that I did have my name on the lease. Why would I ask about requesting a interview if I have nothing to show. I have years of receipts and taxes, and payroll. Those are the only things I have misplaced.

EDIT: I have car loan information, school information , work log sheets. I have given all of this information to them. Except bank account info and lease info which I was told before when I took my test that so long as I had enough to show I was in the country I would be fine.

Just go to the place u rented and ask for the landlord details then get him to make copies for u, how hard can it be ?

They were independent owners, I never knew where they lived. Its not like I am not trying to track them down. I am planning in the event I cannot within the 30 days they've given me. If they were company owned properties I would fly back tomorrow to sort it out. It's been a year since I sent my RQ in. They have all my tax records, my Canadian school records, records of employment etc etc.

If you use(d) ePost, and had your utility bills posted electronically, you should have them all still. Any little extra evidence you can find helps.

Write to CIC, explain the situation and what docs you can supply, then see what happens. Citizenship don't do interviews by request, if they determine you need one, you'll get invited.

So who did you make out the rent cheques to, and where did you send them / or who did you give them to?

Didn't you have any kind of rental agreement that you signed?

Surely there was some kind of landlord contact, who I would have thought would know who owned the property?

Of the three places I have rented, I've always had some kind of lease agreement, which included name and address of landlord, who was also the property owner. Wether this was an official agreement (I'm thinking OREA - ontario real estate association) or just a typed up agreement (signed by all parties).

I don't think I'd rent a place if I had no idea who the landlord was, or how to contact them for any reason.

Even if you were not on the lease, someone would have been, in which case, can you not contact that person and ask them for the information, perhaps they have copies of the lease?

Not everyone would. Not sure why one would keep rental agreements after leaving a property and they have ended. A property agent would not divulge who the owner was, however a property agent would also be an easy place to get a copy of an agreement.

I rented a place in 1995, I remember who the owners were, I could probably track them down if I had a mind to.

we rented for over 6 years and only had a lease for one of those years. everything beyond that was agreed by emails. So i can understand you not having a copy of the lease for sure.

it should be relatively easy to provide evidence that you were resident in Canada, getting them to accept alternative evidence might be the tricky part. They seem to have become less and less flexible in this

when I had roommates I gave them cash and when I was on the lease the two times the checks did not come from me, the first time th money went to ta roommate and he paid and the other one was money orders I believe and sometimes cash. I remember one of the landlords names for one place but tracking him down hasnt been too easy. the other one I am still trying to figure out his name. There was no property company, all have been independent owners so far. I did send out a letter to CIC, 4 pages in length, detailing everything and saying I will work diligently on gather required materials.

and like I said there are years worth of pay stubs and daily work logs that I can provide, some of which I have already provided, not to mention numerous other things I have already gave them.
