Citizenship Application - Personal I.D

Hi there

We are submitting all out documentation with our application and we've noticed what I think will be am issue.

The only official photo I.D ( other than her passport ) my wife has is her drivers license which for some reason has her married surname on it - every single bit of I.D she has ( passport etc ) is in her maiden name - she never legally changed it.

The application form has a section for all names you've been known as ( aliases an option on the drop down )

If we note her alias married name and attach wedding certificate should this be ok does anyone know?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Edit - This should be in immigration and citizenship forum .

Why not just go and get her license changed to match her maiden name if that's what she chooses to use? It would be trivial to go in and say it was done by mistake and show her passport etc and get it changed to match the rest of her ID. That seems like the easiest route.

She tried to do that.

They couldn't change it because she doesn't have any other Canadian i.d they said.

PR card? Health card?

Go in and try again... the reality is it is the incorrect name so should be corrected. ServiceOntario workers are a little notorious for not being helpful so it may take another try.

Edit: I'm assuming you are in Ontario when this might not be the case. Where are you?

Ah ok. Guess things might be different there. Not sure though what other kind of Canadian ID you could possibly provide - did you try the PR card? SIN Card?

Unfortunately she's lost her PR card which is causing this problem in part.

We didn't get s.i.n cards just a letter with the number on it, and it has to be photographic I.D.

Ah OK that's a problem...and PR cards take forever to replace. Though you may want to get that sorted in the meantime so you can travel if you need to (Can't re-enter the country without PR card or PRTD)
