Hi

From experience can anyone tell me is it worth waiting til nearer the time to try and get cheaper flights over christmas period or will they just all be sold out? Trying to get cheap London to Halifax and coming out about 670 pounds (btw how do you get pound sign on canadian keyboard

There are no cheap flight at Xmas, or about two or three weeks either side.

If you wait there is a good chance there will be nothing.

£= alt(156)....hold alt down and use the number pad

My son flew from BC home on 22nd December but we booked tickets in advance (2 months). I think personally you would be better booking tickets earlier as a lot of people want to go home for xmas etc. dont know about thhe canadian keyboard but you could always write sterling after the amount! Also £670 sounds a bit steep to me!

Not strictly true. When she lived in England Mrs AX used to take a weeks unpaid leave (she is a teacher) to fly out to Canada before say the 15th and get a good price. Last time I looked at options for going home over Xmas there was definately some significant price differential depending on how close to Xmas itself you want to fly. Actually the 25th should in theory be the cheapest day to fly, that and returning on the 31st!

I did that 4 years ago, when HB (then boyfriend) was still in the UK. I spent Christmas Day with my family, then flew out of Halifax that night, arriving in London on Boxing Day. I came back on Jan 1 or 2. It was a good price, probably in the $500 to $600 range (can't remember exactly). Air Canada usually has a seat sale in the fall that covers the Christmas period - the blackout period for domestic flights covers mid December to mid January, but international flights have some deals around Dec 24/25 and Dec 31/Jan1/2.

For h_henry and anyone else coming after - don't try to fly standby as I was told at the Air Canada ticketing desk in Heathrow that they don't actually do it anymore.

Bought my ticket on the day of flight though it wasn't any cheaper or more expensive than if I'd booked upto a month beforehand.

Booking way in advance has been the cheapest/safest option in my experience at Christmas time.

I've flown on xmas eve a couple of times. They were great flights - Heathrow was quiet and calm - like a ghost town, the plane was half-empty - whole row of seats to myself, the staff were in good spirits, the booze flowed and I saw Santa and his reindeer out the left side window.

You can use the onscreen keyboard if you're using XP: -

*Start/All Progs./Accessories/Accessibility* (just bring it up and follow Iaink's intructions)

...orrrr if you're not using XP (or if you are and need other characters at some point in time) you can use the character map: -
*Start/All Progs./Accessories/System Tools* just click the character you want, hit copy and paste wherever you want it.
